Frequently Asked Questions

We're here to make your notary experience as smooth and straightforward as possible.

Below are answers to some of the most common questions our clients ask, helping you understand our services, and what to expect.

Your Notary Questions Answered

Navigating the world of notarizations can sometimes bring up a few questions.

We've compiled a list of topics that often come up to ensure you have all the information you need before, during, and after your service with Sisters in Ink Mobile Notary Services.

What's the difference between a notary and a mobile notary?

A traditional notary typically operates from a fixed office location, requiring clients to travel to them. A mobile notary, like Sisters in Ink, travels to your preferred location, offering unparalleled convenience and flexibility for your notarization needs.

How much does it cost to get something notarized?

Our pricing varies depending on the type of document, the number of signatures, and travel distance. Please visit our pricing page for detailed information or contact us for a personalized quote.

How do I pay?

We offer several convenient payment options, including cash, credit/debit cards, and secure online payments. You can discuss payment methods when booking your appointment.

Where do we meet?

As a mobile notary service, we meet you at a location of your choice within our service area. This could be your home, office, a local coffee shop, hospital, or any other mutually agreed-upon public location.

What cities do you go to?

We proudly serve Palm Desert, California, and surrounding areas in the Coachella Valley. For specific service area details, please contact us directly.

What ID can I use?

Acceptable forms of identification typically include a valid state-issued driver's license, state-issued identification card, or U.S. passport. All IDs must be current, unexpired, and contain a photo, physical description, and signature.

What if I don't have an ID or it is expired?

If you don’t have a valid ID, notarization can still proceed using two credible witnesses. All signings are done in person, and a current, non-expired photo ID is normally required. If that isn’t available, two credible witnesses who personally know the signer may verify their identity.

The witnesses must be impartial—they cannot be named in or benefit from the document. After confirming the signer’s identity, they do not need to remain for the rest of the appointment.

What can I expect to happen during a notarization?

During a notarization, we will verify your identity, confirm your understanding of the document, and witness your signature. We will then complete the notarial certificate and apply our official stamp.

We are not attorneys, and therefore, by law, we cannot explain or interpret the contents of any document for you, instruct you on how to complete a document, or direct you on the advisability of signing a particular document.

By doing so, we would be engaging in the unauthorized practice of law and could face legal penalties that include the possibility of incarceration. Any important questions about your document should be addressed to the receiving party, or an attorney, lender, or title company.

Can you notarize a birth certificate, death certificate or marriage license?

No, notaries cannot certify copies of vital records such as birth certificates, death certificates, or marriage licenses. These documents must be obtained from the issuing government agency.

Can you certify a power of attorney and will it be as effective as the original?

A notary can notarize the signature on a power of attorney document, but they cannot "certify" it to be as effective as the original. The effectiveness of a power of attorney depends on its proper execution and legal validity. (Probate Code section 4307) Source: Secretary of State of California
